Day Treatment and Programming - Section Classrooms

Purpose: To support children and youth in achieving their highest potential in a therapeutic and respectful environment.

Mon Ami Children's Services is an innovative and dedicated agency that inspires the children and youth in our care. Our agency encourages excellence in the staff that provide the services.We encourage respect for the children and youth served and supply leadership for healthy youth in the future.

Program Description:
The day treatment and programming aspect of Mon Ami has been in operation for 10 years. Presently, Mon Ami operates four care and treatment educational programs. These classrooms presently support over half of the children and youth living in Mon Ami's residential programs as well as partnerships for children and youth in the care of Kawartha-Haliburton CAS, Durham CAS and The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. The programs include children and youth in primary, junior, intermediate and high school divisions. All programs are located in a regular school setting. Children and youth entering into the programs generally present with the following issues:

  • Difficulty in completing tasks independently
  • Needing regular and consistent support and redirection to stay focused
  • Difficulty managing cognitively and/or emotionally demanding tasks and situations
  • Frequent displays of oppositional or demanding behaviour
  • Inability to resolve issues independently
  • Truancy

Program Objectives:

  • To provide a small group setting in which the students are carefully monitored and nurtured
  • To provide behavioural strategies that are consistent with their education and treatment needs and each personal situation
  • To integrate and include students in academic, educational and extra- curricular activities whenever possible
  • To provide an instructional curriculum that reflects the needs of the individual student
  • To provide on-going life skills, vocational training and social skills training to assist in the development of independence

Programs Offered: Mon Ami Children's Services assists students with individualized treatment oriented educational programs. The ultimate objective for the children and youth in the programs is the gradual reintegration into the traditional classroom setting. This is accomplished by providing the following:

  • Individualized educational programming to facilitate the student's needs
  • A treatment oriented setting that provides one to one counselling
  • Social Skills training
  • Life Skills training
  • Vocational studies and training
  • Anger Management and Conflict Resolution training
  • Positive Problem Solving
