Our Residences
Hilliard Residence
The
Hilliard adolescent program is licensed for 6 youths from 12 to
18 years old. Each child has his own bedroom.
The residence is a staff model treatment home geared to guiding
the youths through the troubled teen years. Dr.
Anita Halpern also guides the clinical treatment issues for
these youth. We hold one day-long clinical meeting each month
which focuses on one youth and his: genogram, life line,
previous placements and interventions, school experiences, and
family contacts. This meeting is pivotal in the formation of a
treatment plan for the individual youth as well as strategies
for the staff team to use in their daily contact with each
youth.
This residential treatment team is similar to the other houses.
The team consists of a Program Manager and full time Child &
Youth Workers, supplemented by permanent part-time staff and
awake night staff. This house also has a full time CYW who works
in the day treatment program if the youth is required to attend
this specialized class. Any youth able to attend a
mainstream class will have our Day
Treatment Co-ordinator to facilitate this interaction.
We use the counselling services of the Telka, Smith Group in
Peterborough for individual counselling, particularly Dr.
Charlie Menendez. The services of Telka, Smith Group is on a
cost-sharing basis with the placing agency.
In house groups are led by our residential staff who help the
boys develop social, anger management and independent living skills. As
in our other homes, routines and structure are emphasized with
the youths. They will have to earn independent community time
and are encouraged to join community groups and teams. They can
be involved in sports (i.e. hockey, soccer, baseball, etc.) or
other appropriate recreational hobbies of their choosing. We
also have a membership at the Peterborough YMCA and have full
use of these facilities. The boys in this program are encouraged
and supported in preparing for, and finding, part-time jobs with
the staff assisting them through this process.
