Laurie
Residence
The
Laurie program is licensed for 6 females aged 7 through 18 and provides assessment
and treatment for girls who have a variety of problems as a
result of abuse, neglect or chaotic family dynamics. Each girl
has her own bedroom. The emphasis is on providing an environment
in which the child's rights and dignity are protected. Dr.
Anita Halpern guides treatment for the children and youth.
The Program Manager oversees the residence and the home is
staffed by qualified youth workers who receive in-service
training and attend outside workshops for continuing development.
The full-time team consists of the program manager, 3 full-time
Child & Youth Workers and a school staff person. There is an
awake night staff and a roster of permanent, part-time and
relief staff.
Consultation services are an integral part of the program; this
includes staff training and development and children's
individual and group counselling. The interpersonal group is run
by a qualified staff person, in areas such as anger management,
social skills, interpersonal relationships and effective
communication are dealt with.

once a month to review one child and review his genogram, life
line, history of placements, school functioning, history of
interventions, presenting problems, family contact, and current
functioning Once reviewed, a thorough treatment plan is
decided upon. Dr. Charlie Menendez of Telka, Smith &
Associates or any other qualified therapist can provide
individual therapy for the children. These services are on a
